Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
3 CommentsPosted by admin on May 16, 2010 under First-Person Shooter
First off, thanks to Ubisoft and Grin for making a PC-specific version of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. Anyone who passed on the more forgiving, arcade-like focus of the Xbox 360's GRAW 2 will find a much more challenging, tactical experience with this one. So if you prefer merciless first-person shooting gameplay, the kind where a single mistake will get you killed, then this is your game. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 builds off of the events in the first game and places gamers in control of the U.S. military's elite fighting unit, the Ghosts. In the year 2014, the rising conflict between Mexican loyalists and insurgent rebel forces has thrown Mexico into full-scale civil war. Under the command of Captain Scott Mitchell, the Ghosts are called upon to face an imminent threat to the United States. The fate of two countries now lies in the hands of the Ghosts as they fend off an attack on U.S. soil. Equipped with the most cutting-edge weaponry and technology, the Ghosts must battle on both sides of the border to neutralize the escalating rebel threat. (more...)... more. -
Black Mirror 2

In 2003, The Adventure Company and Future Games released The Black Mirror, a third person adventure game that featured a mystery surrounding a number of strange deaths in the town of Willow Creek. Future Games has been hard at work on the sequel, The Black Mirror 2, which will bring players back into a new mystery with new characters and intrigue and some familiar situations. At E3 2009, I got a quick glimpse at the game, which will be published by DTP later this year. Black Mirror 2 takes place in the 1990’s, twelve years after the first episode. Solitary Darren, hero of Black Mirror 2, meets a girl named Angelina while he is working at the local photo shop of Biddeford, a small town in New England. Angelina immediately understands to catch the eye of Darren´s despotic, unpopular boss. To add the mystery, there seems to be a third person interested in Angelina – Darren sees someone chasing her. He decides to investigate these incidents. His researches will soon lead him to several locations – such as the small English village of Willow Creek, that adventure game players know from part 1... Conflict: Denied Ops

Conflict: Denied Ops was doomed from the start. The core idea of the game just isn't good. From there a series of uninspired levels were slapped together and some ugly graphics were put in place and a budget title was born. And it was dead on arrival. When the US government needs intelligence but wants no association with an operation, deniable operatives are dispatched. Responsible for covert paramilitary actions, the Special Activities Division is a division of the Central Intelligence Agency’s former Directorate of Operations, now the National Clandestine Service. Members of the unit must bear no identity; no objects, papers or clothing that could associate them in any way with their employees... Conflict: Denied Ops draws its inspiration from this group of highly skilled individuals. An innovative new two player co-op FPS, Conflict: Denied Ops is set in today’s delicately balanced political climate, focusing on two covert field operatives, experts in weapons and military tactics. Conflict: Denied Ops allows players the freedom to switch seamlessly, at any point, between these two operatives to lay down cover fire, explore different paths through levels, create a distraction or pin down the enemy under crossfire. The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom

Real-time strategy games aren't for the mentally lazy. Winning them takes patience, skill, a talent for relating causes and effects, and the ability to recognize the interconnectivity of multiple complex systems. Since 1993, German developer Blue Byte has been combining RTS mechanics with elements of city-building sim games in its series The Settlers, and the results have been uneven. The studio's current offering, The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, though working hard to create an RTS that's both accessible and complex, arrives at equally uneven results. The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom brings a fresh, innovative design to the franchise, while reintroducing the strong game mechanics and deep gameplay that are hallmarks of the highly acclaimed Settlers series. Players will easily become engaged in an exciting campaign, skirmish maps or multi-player challenges in a world of lush forests, open meadows, fast flowing rivers, and high mountains. Genre: Strategy Publisher: Ubisoft Developer: Blue Byte Release Date: March 23, 2010 Also on: Mac ESRB: E10+ Minimum System Requirements * OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 * CPU: 2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 / AMD XP 2600 + or better * RAM: 2 GB * Hard disk: 8 GB of free disk space * Graphics: 256 MB of g... more. -
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction
17 CommentsPosted by admin on April 26, 2010 under Action, Featured
In Conviction, Sam is turned into a hunter, stalking his victims from the shadows and then striking with deadly efficiency. When Sam is in the dark, the color bleeds out and things turn black & white. The minute he's in the light, the color comes back. This makes it easy to know your visibility to enemies so you can avoid being spotted. You won't be slowing down to look at a bunch of crazy meters like in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.Sam is fast. And he'll need that speed to evade his enemies. If Sam's spotted, his best bet is to run. No, seriously, run. Throw an EMP or flash grenade to stun enemies, then retreat into the shadows. Bullets kill very quickly in Conviction, especially on Realistic mode. One wrong move doesn't mean game over, so long as you get out of sight. In past Splinter Cell games, Sam moved slowly along ledges. No longer. Ledges are now shimmied with ease. If Sam catches an enemy near a window or ledge, he can yank them to their death. Windows also make for excellent escape routes. Dive out one window, shimmy quickly to the next, then pop back inside to catch your enemies by surprise. When an enemy catches sight of Sam, a ghost image appears. This indicates Sam's last known position. It's where the enemies think Sam's hiding. They'll unload som... more. -
BlackSite: Area 51

Expectations can be a bitch. If publishers want their games to get out and get onto the wishlists of Pete and Paula Public, they have to showcase screens, movies and all sorts of stuff that makes an award-winning impression. However, that quick glimpse or play test is just part of the product that's coming down the pike. Perhaps the game will surpass the initial look or perhaps it'll fall short of the lofty goal. Sadly, BlackSite: Area 51 is one of the games that falls short. Following on the heels of the arcade and console shooter sensations, BlackSite: Area 51 is an action packed, first person shooter experience which pits gamers against alien enemy forces using the infamous U.S. government landmark, Area 51, and the surrounding areas as the battlefield backdrop. Set in present day, players take the role of a decorated military veteran charged by the government to lead a squadron of "secret soldiers," each with his/her own specialty skill set, into the Rachel, Nevada area to fight off the invasion of unidentified enemy races. The player's modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance and eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standar... more.
